Thank you for helping students with their biography interviews. They’re my favorite writing project. The students have some amazing relatives! We’ve published them, so be sure to stop outside our classroom and read them.
We’re entering our second grading cycle and will shift some of the work we’ve been doing, particularly in math. We’ve finished our concentrated focus on math facts, with a majority of students mastering their times tables through 12. Those who are still trying to pass the final few should continue to practice and request tests as they feel ready. Others will start working on some basic coding skills. This will be done in the classroom.
Relatedly, math homework will shift from nightly fact practice to doing some preliminary work on upcoming math lessons. Students will access our math curriculum, HMH Think Central, online through the student cloud. They’ll watch the introductory video and Math on the Spot video and complete a few warmup problems. We’ll then work through the lesson together in the classroom.
Other focuses in the coming weeks:
Writing — Compound subjects and predicate, then figurative language and types of sentences
Reading — Myths, legends and folktales, followed by poetry
Social Studies — We have a test this week covering the earliest Texans (Paleoamericans through Native Americans) and will then shift to explorers in the Western Hemisphere
Math — Multiplication and division
Science & Health — Electricity and Sugar & the body
Social Emotional — Interacting with others and growth mindset
