We're well into our fourth-grade year, and the students are feeling more confident every day. What we're working on:
Reading — We're continuing to explore different genres, having examined fiction and nonfiction. We'll tackle drama this week before examining folktales, myths, and legends; poetry; and biographies. Please remember that the first book projects are due next week.
Writing — We've looked at the unique text structures and elements for these and written fiction and nonfiction summaries while familiarizing ourselves with the writing process and learning to conference with peers. We've also worked to strengthen our basic writing conventions and understanding of the parts of speech. We'll continue to work on grammar and punctuation as well as explore types of sentences.
Math — We've made huge progress with place value and decimals and will be moving onto adding and subtracting with both. Many students are also making terrific progress on mastering their multiplication and division facts.
Social studies — We're beginning to look at the first people in North America and Texas.
SEL — Mindfulness continues to be a huge focus, plus we’ve looked at empathy and assertiveness and will begin to support respecting differences.
Fall conferences are Oct. 10. Please be sure to schedule a conference through SignUp Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094caca829a46-fall4
