I'm looking forward to seeing all our children again. We'll jump right into it on Wednesday.
Our first big activity will be Science Fair Week Jan. 17-20. Students' completed boards are due Jan. 17. I’ve got some sample boards in the classroom; parents are welcome to view these before or after school with their child. Students should be sure to practice their oral reports, as well. Students will give their reports in the classroom and have an opportunity to examine projects throughout the school
In the classroom, we're working on:
Reading: We’re continuing to read a variety of texts, including finishing up our first novel study.
Writing: We're doing a more in-depth examination of expository text as well as continuing to work on grammar skills and honing our revising and editing skills.
Social studies: We're looking at the settlement of Texas by colonists from the United States and headed for a revolt against Mexico.
Math: We’re going deeper on taking apart and solving multistep word problems. After the science fair, students will begin using the district-provided Think Through Math online program for independent skills practice. Students still struggling with basic computational skills should continue to work on those, as well.
Social Emotional: We're beginning our study of managing emotions.
