We're entering the final grading cycle of the school year, and the STAAR testing season is drawing near. Students will take the writing test April 10, followed by math on May 14 and reading on May 15.
Students have been doing some amazing writing in the classroom and revisiting a few of the more tricky concepts. They're clearly ready for the test. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest and has a healthy, protein-packed breakfast each morning. Along with a fresh handful of No. 2 pencils, students should bring healthy snacks, water, and confidence to school each morning.
Here's what we're working on in class:
Reading: We’re continuing to read Number the Stars as well as examining nonfiction and biographical companion pieces. Students will have one final independent book project beginning later this month. Students, with parent and teacher input, will identify their genre, book selection, and book project. They’ll also create their own scoring rubric.
Writing: We’ll do some final tuning up for the STAAR test, then revisit personal narratives and try our hands at some more creative writing
Social studies: We'll see Texas join the United States after nearly 10 years as an independent nation and enjoy in boom with cattle trails, railroads, and the discovery of oil.
SEL: We’re continuing our unit on solving more difficult problems.
