Welcome to March ... and spring ... and spring break ... and STAAR testing.
We have two more weeks of fine-tuning in the run-up to the STAAR writing test on March 30 & 31. The testing last four hours each day, beginning at 8 a.m. Each day, students with revise and edit several passages and write a one-page composition. One composition is an expository, while the other is a personal narrative. The state assigns a specific prompt for each.
We have been working on all these skills since August and are tackling a variety of review activities. You will notice some slight changes in your child's homework as a part of this review.
STAAR testing returns April 21 and 22 with the math and reading tests. A copy of the letter sent out last month by our school counselors/test coordinators has been posted in the handouts section and contains more information.
In non-STAAR news, we are looking excited about Big Art Day on March 13 and Spring break March 16-20. We've also completed our third quarter; look for report cards to come home March 25.
