The students have done a great job of getting online and trying several new activities. I was really pleased with their SEL Comic Creations and am excited to flip our math lessons. Thanks for all your help getting them online at home.
We'll continue our review of addition and subtraction with whole and mixed numbers before moving onto fractions. In science, we'll spend quite a bit of time exploring matter through measuring its mass, volume, density, and magnetism. We're wrapping up a look at folktales by writing a summary, which should also help students with their book reports. Remember, there's a model of the book report and the correct-sized paper available in the classroom. We'll then turn our attention to poetry. As we finish our study if the land of Texas, students will craft their own poems about their favorite places in Texas.
Remember that parent-teacher conferences are Monday Oct. 13. There's no school that day, and I look forward to meeting with parents. Sign up for a conference through SignUp Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094caca829a46-fall2/
We'll have out first field trip on Thursday Oct. 30. We'll travel by car to Johnson City for Farm and Ranch Days at the Johnson Settlement. The really helps build experience and background knowledge for units in reading, writing and social studies. We'll need parent drivers, with seats for 19 children. Please let me know if you can help. All field trip drivers and chaperons need to go online to Austin Partners In Education's website — http://www.austinpartners.org/ — and register to have a background check.
Have a great week!
