We're well into our fourth-grade year, and the students are feeling more confident every day. What we're working on:
Reading — We're continuing to explore different genres, having examined fiction and nonfiction. We're tackling drama this week before examining folktales, myths, and legends; poetry; and biographies. Please remember that the first book projects are due Friday. We’ll have a few weeks of alternative reading homework before starting our second project.
Writing — We've looked at the unique text structures and elements for fiction, nonfiction, and scripts while familiarizing ourselves with the writing process and learning to conference with peers. We're also working to strengthen our basic writing conventions and will continue to work on grammar and punctuation as well as we explore types of sentences.
Social studies — We've begun to look at the first people in North America and Texas.
SEL — Mindfulness continues to be a huge focus, plus we’ve looked at empathy and assertiveness as well as supporting and respecting differences.
Fall conferences are Oct. 9. Please be sure to schedule a conference through SignUp Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094caca829a46-fall5 for Ms. McDonald’s class. Note that conferences are student-led, so your child will need to attend with you.
And finally, a huge shout out to Carmen Henderson and Elvia Trautman for taking the lead on our class basket for the Fall Festival and for all of those who participated in the basket, the fourth-grade Poppin’ Party, and the Fall Festival. It takes village!
